Welcome to Rupert’s Wild Life!
Rupert’s Wild Life is the home of my writing about the wildlife and, in particular, the birds that I encounter in the St Albans area and beyond. I was born in St Albans in December 1972 and have (with various exceptions) lived there my whole life. In that time I have walked the city and surrounding countryside and got to know its wildlife intimately.
The 5 mile radius from my home has become my 'local patch' and each year I see how many bird species I can record in that area. Within that broad patch are 'sub-patches' where I spend more time because of the particular richness of wildlife - among them my garden, Tyttenhanger Gravel Pits and of late, Stanborough Gravel Pits. Of course, I sometimes leave home - hence the "& beyond" part of the title. Cornwall and France are sure to feature!
In creating this website I want to share my enjoyment of the wildlife of the places I visit through a blog, various specific pages, and also through my writing for the local paper - The Herts Advertiser - that I undertook on a monthly basis from 2015 to 2022. Whether I can maintain all of this remains to be seen but I hope it is of interest to others and inspires the same love (and constant amazement) of the nature right on our doorstep!
